Neom Bay Airport (NUM) is one of the four airports planned in Neom, and it welcomed its first visitors – 130 employees – in 2019. At the moment, the best way to get to Neom from the airport is by car. However, this might change with the introduction of the public transport networks.
One of the most popular attractions in Neom is the 170-kilometre-long glass wall, which will surround one of Neom's regions – The Line. The Line will contain a high-speed rail running through the middle (with an end-to-end transit being only 20 minutes) and a complex of buildings on the sides, which will house around nine million residents. All essential services and shops are planned to be within walking distance since The Line will be completely car-free. The Line will also run on 100% renewable energy, reducing its carbon footprint. At every stop, green spaces will be just a few minutes’ walk away.
Neom is on a quest to prove everything is possible by building the first major outdoor skiing site in Saudi Arabia. Situated in the Sarwat Mountains, Trojena will benefit from the cooler climate that results from the higher elevation and will provide multiple high-end hotels for visitors. While the site will be centred around skiing between December and March, an "adventure season" will take place between March and May, including yoga retreats, mountain biking, and paragliding. May to September will focus on culture, so you can expect multiple music and food festivals, as well as art fairs and light shows. Lastly, September to November is dubbed the "wellness season", with a yoga retreat, a wellness summit, and a discovery week.
Oxagon is a floating coastal city that's being built as part of Neom. Its mission is to create an automated port that functions via smart technology, runs the entirety of its operations on sustainable energy, and supports faster, more seamless global trade. A high-speed train will connect Oxagon to The Line and the airport. Oxagon will have the largest cruise terminal in the Red Sea and will provide plenty of housing as well. As His Royal Highness Mohammed bin Salman said, "Oxagon will contribute to redefining the world's approach to industrial development in the future, protecting the environment while creating jobs and growth for NEOM.
Another region that will be a major part of Neom is Sindalah, a luxury resort off the coast. Sindalah will offer three luxury hotels, including eighty-eight villas, and plenty of space for the yachting community. Visitors will be entertained throughout their stay by the many cultural and sporting events. Of course, the most fascinating part about Sindalah is the smart technology implemented throughout the city and the environmentally conscious approach to life. Sindalah will be able to welcome 2,400 visitors per day by 2028.
In 2022, the idea for Neom Nimbus won the Sustainable Hospitality Challenge and will be integrated into Neom's hospitality scene. Neom Nimbus is a planned five-star hot air balloon hotel that will fly above Neom and stop at around twenty stops on the way. Each balloon will be a hotel room, taking hospitality to new heights – literally. Rooms will contain a bedroom, a lounging area, a bathroom, an observation deck, and a pilot service area. And, of course, the hotel will work on an eco-friendly basis.
Since Neom is located in the Tabuk province, it's easier than ever to take a trip to Tabuk and explore another beautiful city in Saudi Arabia. Walk through history at Tabuk Ottoman Castle, learn about ancient transport at Hijaz Railway Station Museum, visit the famous Moses Well, or go to the Tabuk Flower Festival if you're in town during spring. Tabuk is an excellent place to visit for a more traditional Saudi Arabian atmosphere, boasting bustling markets, traditional restaurants, ancient castles, museums, and valuable archaeological sites.
