Once you land in Jazan, it is only a ten-minute drive to get to the city centre. The most common means of transportation is hiring a taxi or renting a car. Some hotels may also offer private shuttle services. Thanks to the airport's location, the city of Jazan is within walking distance – it takes about thirty minutes to reach the centre on foot. However, using some means of transportation is preferred.
There is no better way to understand a city than to learn about its past. Luckily, Jazan is brimming with history. Visit Jazan Heritage Village, a restored settlement from centuries ago, and get a closer look at the lives of Jazan's former inhabitants. Explore Al Baitul Jabali, a three-story house that reflects the traditional architecture of the region, and discover a plethora of archaeological artifacts. There is also a traditional hut. The best part? The village is only a short walk from the Red Sea, so you can combine this cultural trip with a day at the beach!
The most popular tourist destination in the region, Fayfa Mountains are just a two-hour drive away from Jazan. Towering at two thousand metres above sea level, the mountains are often called "The Neighbours of the Moon" by the locals, and for a good reason – once you drive up the steep terrain, you find yourself above the clouds, with an open sky everywhere you look. During your trip, make sure to visit Fayfa village, where the locals speak a unique dialect and have their own traditions, such as calling each person's house by a nickname. The weather is mild and refreshing, and the hike isn't too difficult, making for an ideal family trip.
Awqat Saeeda Theme Park (which translates to "Happy Times Theme Park") belongs to the most popular recreational places in Jazan. Located at the beach, the park offers spectacular views of the sunset while children and adults alike get to enjoy thrilling rides. Have some delicious refreshments while the children explore what the playground has to offer, decompress in one of the many seating areas, and experience a leisurely evening with family and friends.
Jazan makes for an excellent stopping point before you continue your journey to Farasan Island in the Red Sea. It's also possible to take a few days' trip to the island and then return to Jazan. The most extraordinary time to visit is during Kunnah, a fishing festival that takes place in the summer. Thanks to the fishing boats surrounding the island, the place looks as if it were a floating illuminated paradise, especially at night. The distance between Jazan and Farasan Island is only about fifty kilometres, and you can take a ferry or a small local boat ("fluka") to get there. Travelling by ferry is free, so don't hesitate to explore one of the largest islands in the Red Sea during your trip! While the tickets come at no cost, you should still make sure to book them in advance.
Dating back to the Ottoman Empire, Turks Castle (or Adosareyah Castle) can be found in the very heart of Jazan. Once the home of Jazan rulers, the castle is located on top of the Jazan mountain, overlooking the sea and the city. The castle's ancient architecture brings you into the past, and the mountaintop offers excellent views. Turks Castle is one of the major landmarks in Jazan and is not to be missed.
Fancy something a bit more adventurous? Jazan boasts many dive centres with local expert divers who will ensure you have a memorable underwater experience. The Red Sea is often considered a submarine paradise; with its colourful corals, exotic fish, and various fascinating sea creatures, it's no wonder! Swim alongside manta rays or sea turtles and find yourself mesmerised by the underwater universe. If you prefer to stay on the surface, you can give snorkelling a try.
Jazan boasts an abundance of stunning beaches. From Al Shuqaiq Beach in the south to Al Muwasem Beach in the north, you will always find someplace to relax with a book, go for a swim, or have a fun family picnic. As you follow the coast, you are bound to find plenty of hidden gems that allow for a peaceful and serene evening while you gaze at the sunset. One such place is Golden Beach in Ash Shati.
